A Schengen visa allows you to travel freely across 27 European countries with just one visa. Once you have it, you can visit multiple destinations like France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and many more — without having to apply for separate visas for each country.
Countries are Schengen states, as of 25th May 2025, according to European Migration and Home Affairs:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

Whether you’re a Vietnamese citizen expat living in Vietnam with temporary resident card, you can apply for a Schengen visa in Vietnam.
Tourist Visa – for travel, sightseeing, or visiting friends and family
Business Visa – for attending meetings, conferences, or events
Study Visa – for short courses or study programs under 90 days
Normally, it takes around 15 working days for a Schengen visa application to be processed. However, it’s always a good idea to apply at least 1 month before your trip to avoid last-minute stress.
Here are the most common documents you’ll need to prepare:
Completed visa application form (filled and signed)
Valid passport – at least 6 months valid beyond your planned return date, with 2 blank pages
Two recent passport-sized photos
Travel insurance – minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR, valid in all Schengen countries
Proof of financial means – bank statements, salary slips, or sponsorship letter
Proof of employment or study – letter from your company or school
Supporting documents – invitation letter (if visiting someone) or business documents (for work trips)
💡 Tip: Some embassies might ask for additional documents, so always double-check before submitting.
Here’s a step-by-step process:
Decide which country to apply to
If you’re visiting several countries, apply for the member states that you’ll stay in the longest.
If the length of stay is equal between countries, apply for the one that is your first entry country.
Book an appointment
Most Schengen countries in Vietnam use visa centers like VFS Global or TLScontact.
Prepare your documents
Gather all the requirements listed above.
Attend your appointment
Submit your documents, pay the visa fee, and provide biometrics (photo and fingerprints).
Wait for processing
It usually takes 15 calendar days, but it can be longer during busy travel seasons.
Collect your passport
You’ll be notified when your visa is ready for pickup.
You will then come to the visa center to collect the passport or it will be shipped to you if you choose courier service on the submission date.
